Three staff members from the University of Hertfordshire in the UK including Professor Helen Barefoot, Deputy Director of the Learning and Teaching Innovation Centre, the Director of Learning and Teaching, Ms Karen Barton and Mrs Karen Clarke, Associate Director of Learning and Teaching spent 3 days at UH-GAF to facilitate the postgraduate module ‘Teaching and Supporting Learning’. This has involved face to face sessions, workshops and microteaching activities and the module has covered key aspects of learning, teaching and assessment including consideration of how to engage students in the classroom and the use of technologies to support learning. Thirty UH-GAF staff participated in this module which will require then to undertake assessment tasks over the next 3 months to complete the module learning outcomes. The module forms part of the Continuing Professional Academic Development Programme (CPAD) at UH, which is fully validated by the Higher Education Academy (HEA) and allows UH-GAF staff who complete the module to become Associate Fellows of the HEA.

The President of UH-GAF, Professor Vincent Emery, noted “this is an excellent example of how we can enhance the quality and innovation of our teaching and learning at UH-GAF under the guidance of the widely experienced team at UH through delivery of this module in Egypt”.

Module lead Professor Helen Barefoot added “myself and the UH team have been very impressed by the UH-GAF staff on this module, especially their receptiveness to reflecting on their teaching practice, their consideration of innovative approaches to facilitate student learning and their desire to enhance their pedagogical performance”.
